DE: Unter der Leitung des Architekten Dominikus Böhm entstand bereits 1951 ein Plan für die Kirchenanlage mit Jugendheim, Kindergarten, Pfarrhaus und dem Kirchengebäude St. Stephan im Stadtteil Brühl-Ost. Fertiggestellt werden konnte der Komplex aber erst Anfang der 1960er Jahre durch seinen Sohn und Architekten Gottfried Böhm. Eingeweiht wurde die Kirche erst im Jahr 1965 durch Kardinal Frings, benannt wurde sie nach Sankt Stephanus, dem ersten Märtyrer des Christentums.
Das fast quadratische, stützenfreie Kirchengebäude mit einer Grundfläche von 20m mal 21m und der frei stehende Glockenturm (auch Campanile genannt) wurden mit dem für Gottfried Böhm typischen Material Beton gefertigt. Der Innenraum ist schlicht gehalten, der Blick auf den Altar ist durch die fehlenden Säulen ungestört. Im Osten des Kirchenraumes befindet sich zudem eine Apsos, die Deckenhöhe der Faltbetondecke beträgt etwa 15m und die von Gottfried Böhm entworfenen Fenster erinnern an Kristalle.
Seit 2015 befindet sich auf dem Fußboden der Kirche ein etwa 12m durchmessendes, aufgemaltes Labyrinth.

EN: Under the direction of the architect Dominikus Böhm, a plan for the church complex with youth home, kindergarten, rectory and the St. Stephan church building in the Brühl-Ost district was drawn up as early as 1951. However, the complex was not completed until the early 1960s by his son and architect Gottfried Böhm. The church was inaugurated in 1965 by Cardinal Frings and was named after Saint Stephen, the first martyr of Christianity.
The almost square, column-free church building with a base area of ??20m by 21m and the free-standing bell tower (also called campanile) were made with the material concrete, which is typical for Gottfried Böhm. The interior is kept simple, the view of the altar is undisturbed by the missing columns. In the east of the church there is also an apse, the height of the folded concrete ceiling is around 15m and the windows designed by Gottfried Böhm are reminiscent of crystals.
Since 2015 there has been a painted labyrinth on the floor of the church with a diameter of about 12 meters.
