"William (Bill) Fedoruk
January 1, 1918 - June 10, 2020

On Wednesday, June 10, 2020, Mr. William (Bill) Fedoruk of Oliver passed away peacefully at McKinney Place Extended Care at the age of 102 years.

Bill was born in Veregin, Saskatchewan on January 1, 1918. He worked on the CNR for many years, gold mined in Costa Rica, the Yukon and Quesnel areas. Bill also logged, fixed and welded heavy equipment all over British Columbia and his first wife Betty cooked in the camps he worked in for many years before her passing. He lived in the lower mainland, Blue River, Quesnel, Chase, Galiano Island and was always known to be a pillar in each community he lived in. At one time he looked all over for the travelling preacher in the Yukon, only to find out he was looking for himself. Bill wanted to be a hangman but the job position was unavailable when he was. He also thought of becoming a safe cracker but his religious beliefs took the better of him. Bill was an extremely hard worker and was the man that was beckoned when everything went awry and would find a solution wherever needed.

He had an amazing sense of humour, a strong Christian faith, a tremendous love of nature and poetry. His memory would allow him to recite bible verses, poetry, song lyrics and music on a whim. Bill appreciated every day and those who got to know him knew this classy gentleman with a strong arm and spiritual soul could always get your mind spinning with his direct questions with intentional suggestions.

Bill was married to his first wife Betty and she was a lovely girl who he loved dearly until her passing. His first and last love, Marie Swallow was a long-lost love story that would bring many to tears with all the letters and communication that was kept over the years until they found each other again in their 80’s. Marie passed away from cancer and Bill was heartbroken but his dearest friend Mikie was there to help him pick up the pieces along with Marie’s sister Ann and Ann’s son Ken.

Having no children of his own, he was a strong influence on many children he taught in bible studies (which included many ice cream excursions as well), children he took into his home from broken family homes who thought of him as a parent figure and these children had six children, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren as well as friends of friends who needed financial support.

He was generous, kind, funny, always had a story to tell, usually with a moral ending.

Bill Fedoruk was a treasure and will be sadly missed.

A memorial service will be held at Park Drive Church in Oliver"
