Hamblen Drive is named for Will H. Hamblen (1878-1952) who in the 1890s pioneered a crude road into Palo Duro Canyon along old Indian trails. This road was first graded in 1928 and is now Highway 207. This pull out and rest stop provides a spectacular view of the canyon from the two shelters and from a semicircular viewing area on the northeast corner of the area. Historical markers here provide some information about this area.
