This unusually shaped mausoleum is partially within a hillside within the cemetery. I suspect that the granite marble of the mausoleum was supplied by the business he ran at one time. The doors appear to be made of marble and the exterior cladding appears to be made of granite.
After the 1848 Allentown fire, Tilghman J Schmeyer bought the site that was occupied by the Second National Bank (in 1913, at the time of his death). He started a granite and marble yard business where he instructed most of the workers in the craft. The company he founded was known as Schmeyer and Weider. In 1877, he brought his son into the business and as A. W. Schmeyer & Co., they furnished marble slabs to furniture producers. He was active in the business until 1898, when he retired and his son started Star Laundry.
While he was active in the marble and granite industry, he furnished the stone for most of the buildings in the city, including the Lehigh County Jail, the Herbst school and the Wolf Building.
