"Inaugurated in 1887, this bronze piece, much to the taste of the time, is the work of Juan Soler y Damau, placed on a granite pedestal by Zabala. It pays homage to one of the key figures of the Enlightenment in Spain, born in a village near Ourense. The idea to place this statue arises with the bicentennial of its birth, in 1876, but it took more than one decade in taking shape. Literary contests, fundraising performances and scientific activities wrapped up the installation of the dean of sculptures in Ourense." Font: ( visit link) Point 1
