La cour est flambant neuve pour accueillir des visiteurs de tous âges. Voilà six mois que le personnel de l'Historial de Péronne dans la Somme attendait que le lieu de mémoire rouvre ses portes. La Covid-19, puis un allongement des travaux de rénovation ont repoussé un peu plus longtemps que prévu. L’heure était donc au soulagement jeudi 10 septembre au matin quand les premiers curieux ont foulé le sol de l’établissement.
C’est un moment qu’on attendait tous avec grande impatience. Même si on a pour la plupart travaillé en télétravail ça fait forcément de bien de retrouver le public. Le partage, l’objet du musée, c’est la rencontre avec un public. C’est présenter des collections, une histoire et là, on l’a déjà retrouvé notamment ce matin avec un groupe scolaire et aussi le grand public.
Une visite adaptée sans tablette qui plaît aux jeunes
Malgré la fermeture, le personnel de l’Historial n’a pas chômé. "D’abord, il y a évidemment eu la stupéfaction. On ne pensait pas que ça durerait aussi longtemps, mais on s’est vite réorganisé entre les équipes qui pouvaient faire du télétravail et le chômage partiel en vigueur pour les autres. Heureusement, on avait des gros projets dans les cartons sur lesquels travailler et ils arriveront en 2021", commente le directeur de l’Historial Hervé François.
Pour le moment, les curieux ont droit à une visite adaptée à la période Covid-19. Certaines salles sont fermées. Il est impossible d'utiliser les tablettes tactiles, un changement qui ne semble pas déplaire aux plus jeunes. "On voit plein d’armes, plein de costumes. Au final on s’intéresse plus à ce qu’il y a dans les vitrines. Comme ça, on voit plus ce qu’ils affichent, on lit un peu plus. C’est une autre approche du musée", partagent à l’unisson Charles et Antoine, élèves en troisième à Corbie.

Si Hervé François se réjouit de ces premiers retours, la frustration reste grande. Cette année, l'Historial devrait accueillir trois fois moins de visiteurs que l'année dernière. "Péronne c’est environ 80 000 visiteurs et Thiepval 30 000. On s’est arrêté mi-mars tout au début de la saison et on en aura quasiment perdu les trois quart voir plus."
Des estimations qui se basent notamment sur la réouverture timide de Thiepval dès le 1er août. "Il n’y avait pas de groupe, plus ou presque pas de Britanniques. On fait la moitié de ce qu’on faisait au mois d’août en temps normal… ça donne le ton. C’est une année catastrophique pour tout le monde. C’est difficile, mais il faut réussir à se projeter malgré tout. C’est la difficulté de cette crise : l’incertitude. Un lieu culturel fermé, c’est un peu un non-sens vu que son objet est la rencontre avec le public. Psychologiquement, c’est important de rouvrir ,de retrouver cet échange pour continuer à avancer."
D'autres phases de travaux sont prévues et une application sur smartphone est en cours de préparation pour une visite immersive, sans danger pour sa santé.
