This U.S. Geological Survey Benchmark Disk is on the southwest corner (on the south, or front, side) of the
Knox County Courthouse in Benjamin. The disk is stamped M 57 and dated 1925, and also states the elevation as 1479.587 feet.
And then it gets a little out of the ordinary.
This disk is not listed in the NGS database, so the NGS PID is not known. Furthermore, this lovely Art Deco courthouse, the third for Knox County, wasn't constructed until 1935, so the disk predates the structure by a decade. Anyone who can shed some light on this mystery please do so in your log!
