The Episcopal Church of Saint James was organized in Greenfield, MA in 1812. The first wooden church building was constructed in 1813. In 1847 it was sold to the Methodist and moved to a different location to allow for construction of the present church on the site. In 2017 the Church of St. James merged with the Church of St. Andrew of Turner's Falls, MA. The latter was put up for sale and the Church of St. James was renamed as the Episcopal Church of Saints James and Andrew.

The church building was designed by architect Henry Sykes of Springfield, MA in the Gothic Revival style. It is constructed of finely fitted cut-block stone blocks known as in masonry as ashlar. The façade has a protruding double door entrance framed by a pointed arch beneath a gable roof. Above the door is a rose window and an open belfry. The main block of the church has a steeply gabled roof covered in sheet metal. The church is six bays deep with tall Gothic style windows in each bay.
