This sculpture is probably one of the most famous in Allentown's park system. Located on a hill overlooking the eponymous Trexler Park in west Allentown, this bronze sculpture is the highlight of many people's visits to Trexler Park.
An equestrian portrait of General Trexler wearing glasses and holding his hat in his proper right hand and the horse's reins in his proper left hand. General Trexler is depicted in a business suit and riding boots taking his regular noon-time ride. The sculpture rests atop a circular stone base.
Harry Clay Trexler (1854-1933) was known as the father of Allentown's park system. His entrepreneurial enterprises include the founding of the Lehigh Portland Cement Company, the reorganization of the Pennsylvania Power & Light Company, and the construction of the first skyscraper in Allentown. The sculpture was commissioned in 1979 by Captain Nolan Benner, Trexler's former secretary, and the other trustees of the Harry C. Trexler Estate. The sculpture overlooks Trexler's former summer home, Springwood Farm, now known as Trexler Park.
