The Ochil Hills are a range of rolling uplands in the central part of Scotland, steeper on the south flank above the Forth Valley, the highest point is at Ben Cleuch to the north of the town of Tillicoultry.

A route to the summit starts in the town and heads northwards through the deep gorge of Tillicoultry Glen, or Mill Glen. The path runs high above the glen on the east side, before dropping down to cross the Gannel Burn via a footbridge which links to the west side of the glen, before the beginning of the steep climb up the hillside.

The bridge is twenty feet long and made of wood, with a reinforced base of metal.
