The Holzmarkt in Berlin
The neighborhood of the future
In big cities it is becoming increasingly difficult to find affordable space for art and culture. With the Holzmarkt the new living room of the artist scene is being created in Berlin. In the cooperatively organized project, nature, economy and culture are brought together. The UmweltBank finances the microcosm on the banks of the Spree.
Change plays a major role in the history of Berlin like in no other city in Germany. This is reflected in the diverse districts such as Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg and Mitte, which significantly shape the cityscape. The quarters are constantly reinventing themselves and yet always staying true to themselves. Now a new neighborhood is emerging in the middle of these districts, directly on the banks of the Spree: The Holzmarkt shows that change and sustainability complement each other well.
The plans for the project are as multifaceted as Berlin itself. The 18,000 square meter site offers entertainment and relaxation, living space and workplaces as well as plenty of space for users to take initiative and participate.
