This bridge once was the most used bridge in North Georgia for access to South Carolina. The river (which is now part of Lake Hartwell) that the bridge spanned was once the great meeting area of the entire Cherokee nation. The center piece has been removed, and it is no longer in service, and the area leading to it on the Georgia side is now a park. Parking is available right at the bridge head.
