[FIN] Valtakunnan ykköskuusi saapuu paikalleen keskiviikkona 25.11.2020 ja valot syttyvät ensimmäisen adventin aikaan ja palavat kaupunkilaisten ilona koko joulukauden ajan. Tämän vuoden joulukuusen korkeus on peräti 24 metriä ja ikää sillä on 65 vuotta. Painoa sillä on 6300 kiloa.

[EN] The number one spruce of the Finland will arrive on its place on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, and the lights will come on during the first Advent and illuminate the joy of the townspeople throughout the Christmas season. This year's Christmas tree is as high as 24 meters and is 65 years old. It weighs 6,300 kilos.

The first Christmas tree lit by electric lamps were brought to the church as early as 1900, and the regular tradition of the Cathedral Christmas tree began in the 1930s. According to tradition, there would have been small breaks in the spruce tradition during the war years. Since 1955, accurate records have been kept of the spruces, which show e.g. spruce donors and habitats.

Christmas tree has precise requirements: it must be 20-25 meters high, bushy, uniform and beautifully green. Spruces are standing still until day of 13th of January.

Traditionally, spruce have been returned in pieces to their donors after serving as Finland's best-known Christmas tree. Sometimes it has also been made into garden furniture and once spruce has continued its life as the raw wood of the museum ship Sigyn.
