"The Donostia City Council has reserved a game of 400,000 euros to renew the ornamental lighting of the Buen Pastor, which is "outdated", according to sources from the municipal government yesterday, who recalled that the Donostia City Council installed the current lighting of the cathedral , takes care of its maintenance and, in addition, pays for consumption.

They also added that, after the suggestion of those responsible for the work that the current moment would be the ideal to change the lighting, the local Executive chose to take advantage of the moment and do it. "We have 400,000 euros, which does not mean that they will be spent in full," added sources from the Government of Eneko Goia.

"From the work, not from the church, it is proposed to us to renew it. And since we put it, we maintain it, we pay for it from the City Hall and it is one of the emblematic buildings of the city, we decided to move forward", said the same sources .

This was confirmed yesterday after hearing a criticism made public by EH Bildu, who regretted the allocation of 400,000 euros for the Good Shepherd, a figure that doubles the funds provided so far by the Donostia City Council to finance the rehabilitation of the tower.

Specifically, the City Council has allocated a total of 104,500 euros in 2018 and the same amount in 2019 for the rehabilitation work, which adds up to 209,000 euros, that is, 12.5% ??of the total cost of the work, which amounts to 1 , 5 million euros. The rest is provided by the Spanish Government, the Diputación de Gipuzkoa and the Bishopric.

EH Bildu regretted that the work of "renovation of the Buen Pastor tower, whose ownership is held by the Diocese of Donostia led by Mr. Juan Ignacio Munilla" is financed "87.5% by public institutions and only 12.5% % for the Catholic Church ".

The sovereignist formation said that "the confusion has come when we have verified that the City Council assigned to the works of the tower at the end of 2019 a game of 400,000 euros without being approved in the Accounts". EH Bildu added that "the budget approved in plenary session for this purpose has been doubled, making use of the municipal contingency fund" which "is not intended to defray unforeseen expenses at the time the Budget is prepared and whose execution does not admit delay. ".

"The renovation project of the Buen Pastor tower was known when the budgets were made and we do not see the urgency of the subsidy justified," added EH Bildu."
