[FR] L’ancienne place d’armes devient un jardin d’agrément selon la commande du premier archevêque d’Albi, Hyacinthe Serroni, suivant le plan des jardins à la Française. Les courtines, ancien chemin de ronde sont modifiées et transformées en promenade ombragée. Une vue panoramique s’ouvre sur les berges du Tarn en contrebas, le Pont-vieux, les anciens moulins et le quartier de la Madeleine sur la rive droite du Tarn.
Les jardins du palais de la Berbie sont caractéristiques des jardins classiques : arabesques de buis taillés sur lit de graviers blancs simplement accompagnés en période estivale d’un fleurissement de qualité. Un jardinier des espaces verts de la Ville, leur est attitré. Il s’occupe de l’entretien exclusivement de façon naturelle puisque tout traitement chimique est prohibé, de la taille des jardins et du fleurissement estival.
[EN] The former arms store became a pleasure garden under orders from the first archbishop of Albi, Hyacinthe Serroni, following a design for French style gardens. The curtains, a former walkway were modified and transformed into a shaded walk. A panoramic view opens on to the banks of the Tarn river below, the Pont Vieux, the old windmills and the Madeleine district on the right bank of the Tarn.
The gardens of the Berbie Palace are characteristic of the classic gardens : boxwood arabesques on a bed of white gravel, simply accompanied in summer by a quality floral display. One of the City’s gardeners works there. He is responsible for the organic maintenance (as any chemical treatment is prohibited), pruning the gardens and the summer flowering.
