This church was built in the late 18th century and it's one of the finest examples of neoclassical architecture in Southern Portugal. Although built in 1782, the church appeared on a spot where a previous church existed. Actually this other church was a mosque converted in Catholic temple.
It has a single nave with four site altars finely decorated.
The main attraction of the church is the larger-than-life representation of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, in Rococo style, also dated from late 18th century.
Notice the unusually tall bell tower which stands in the back of the structure, not by the main entrance as normal.
