The site of The Battle of Stow-on-the-Wold on 21st March 1646 part of the English Civil war between Royalists and Parliamentarians. It was the last pitched battle of the war which was follow by a series of sieges as the last remaining Royalist strongholds slowly surrendered.
The pictured plaque gives a good account of the events and is very readable so I won't repeat the detail here.
The battle site lies on a hillside to the west of the Donnington village, a short walk from the village on good footpaths. Limited roadside parking is available in the village, the parking coordinates are for the village rather than a specific parking place.
