Long Description:
In front of museum Batavialand you find here this 1.200 hp, 14 cylinder star engine Pratt&Whitney with its propellor on it.
The engine is one of the four engines of a Consolidated B-24 Liberator.
It belonged to the plane with registration number 42-7638 from the 8th Airforce Division, stationed at airforce base Shipdam, Norfolk.
The plane crashed 22th december 1943 here in the Zuiderzee.
Only one crew member (the co-pilot) survived and he was made prisoner of war.
Nowadays this area has become a polder and many plane and ship wrecks were found.
In october 1975 the plane was salvaged with the human remains of five crew members in it.
The former co-pilot (Charles Taylor) was present at that moment.
