The 9898 caboose of the Tennessee Central railroad is on permanent display at the Cookeville Railroad Museum and Depot in Cookeville, TN.

"The exact history of this caboose is unknown. Records do not exist for it. We speculate that it was one of the early TC cabooses. It was originally built of wood. Steel sides were added some time later in order to prolong its useful life."

The pictured history also contains a picture of the caboose as it sat in a field in Muddy Pond (near Monterey, TN) before it came to the museum in 1992.
The caboose was restored in 1993 in memory of Thomas Stringfield, a Tennessee Central conductor. The restoration was funded by his daughter, Gladys S. Owen.
