Private Hodges served in the Army in Company K, 59th Infantry, 4th Division. His
Findagrave page notes that he was struck by a train while on guard duty not long after the Armistice was signed. He was buried in Germany initially, where the accident occurred, and was later brought home and reinterred here in Carlton. The inscription on his tree trunk monument reads:
Homer L.
Hodges
Jan. 8, 1893
Jan. 22, 1919
He died in defence of
his country.
