"Renaissance construction of the 16th century, it was the manor house of the Méndez Montoutos and since 1987, the municipal museum of Ourense. Of its three floors, the first two host temporary exhibitions of contemporary art, while the last is dedicated to a permanent exhibition of the Ourense engraver Julio Prieto Nespereira.
It is located in Lepanto Street, formerly Obra Street, a name that perhaps perpetuates the medieval stonemasons who worked in the cathedral (from here we can see its North Gate). This street is today one of the busiest of wines, the quintessential tapas area of ??the city.
The Museum's holdings hold works by Prego de Oliver, Trabazo, Prieto de Nespereira, Cándido Fernández Mazas, Nelson Zumel, Xaime Quessada Porto, Alexandro, Carlos Lanuxe, Vidal Souto, Rafael Úbeda, Bóveda…
The collection of Prieto Nespereira, exhibited in a permanent, it is made up of 54 unpublished works of all kinds that vary in time and allow you to enjoy drawings (from 1914, 1916, 1918…), oils (from 1918, 1928…), watercolors, inks, gouache, etc. In some cases they represent sketches of illustrations for the remembered magazines Blanco e Negro and La Billarda , published at the beginning of the 19th century; also sketches of his study with colleagues and illustrious figures of the time or caricatures, such as that of his friend Vicente Risco."
