"In 2001 the sculptor Xosé Cid made this piece, a reminder of one of the traditional trades that is most associated with the city. Here the tribute is twofold. On the one hand, chestnuts, an essential food in the traditional diet of rural and inland Galicia, and to which Ourense dedicates one of the main dates of its festive cycle, the Magosto. On the other, to the work of women: chestnut, milk or rianxeiras (market vendors) ... so often invisible.
Today it is still possible to find chestnut stalls in the streets, whose delicious aroma permeates the autumn days."
