The
War
Memorials online website list the memorial and tells us:
The
war memorial in Dane John Gardens remembers those of the Buffs
and East Kent Yeomanry who died in the war in South Africa in
1899 – 1902. The obelisk rises from a panelled base with the
names recorded on three sides. The front supports a pedestal
with a figure of a soldier in the Boer War campaign, standing
at ease with slouch, hat and bandolier looking towards South
Africa.
