The Buena Vista Depot was built as the Denver, Leadville and Gunnison Depot in 1890-91.The Buena Vista was a combination depot meaning it served at a freight and passenger depot. The Buena Vista depot maybe the last surviving Denver, Leadville and Gunnison depot. The depot changed railroad company ownership several times until around 1910, when the track down Trout Creek near Buena Vista washed out it isolated Buena Vista from the rest of the line. The struggling railroad company lost money and the Buena Vista line was abandoned in 1924.
