Composed of a manor house and a square keep with a corner tower, the de la Salle manor house is located in the village of Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, in the Dordogne department.
The square tower in beautiful apparatus with flat buttresses was built in the 14th century. It is joined by a penetrating turret which contains a spiral staircase. It is crowned with machicolations supporting the rampart walk. It has a four-sided slate roof supported by an original frame. A few changes were made in the 18th century.
In the 15th century a separate manor house was built with its lodgings arranged at right angles and a tower placed in the re-entrant angle.
In the 14th and 15th centuries, the fiefdom belonged to the Mârtres family. She kept it until the 16th century when members of the family participated in the defense of Sarlat against the Huguenots. The stronghold then passed into the hands of the Vivans family before it became the property of the Cheylard family by marriage in 1630.
The castle was restored from 1969.
Its facades and roofs have been classified as historical monuments since May 21, 1957. The adjoining priory is listed as historic monuments by decree of November 17, 1941.
