Danmarks konge 1080-86. Myrdet modtog han martyrkronen, Knud den Hellige."

English: Statue of Knud the Holy in Odense Centrum. The Danish king was murdered here in Albani church on July 10, 1086 on the run from an uprising. The king looks proudly and hopefully towards the sky and lets a powerful sword rest on his right shoulder and the cloak lies in heavy folds.

E. Utzon-Frank's bronze statue of Knud the Holy was a gift to the city from Fyens Disconto Kasse on the occasion of the bank's 100th anniversary in 1946. It was unveiled on 18 August 1953 and is set up in front of the town hall's new wing facing Albani square. Close to the place where the statue stands was the church where King Knud was killed on July 10, 1086 by rebellious peasants. The plinth bears the following inscription: "Knud was given this memorial, the Knud who was killed here. King of Denmark 1080-86. The murder he received the crown of martyrdom, Knud the Holy."
