Located in the Hontoon Island State Park is a playground. This playground can only be accessed by private water craft or the state operated ferry. The playground is located on Hontoon Island adjacent to the park ranger station and the picnic area. Restrooms are also adjacent to the playground. The picnic area has shaded picnic tables and a covered pavilion with charcoal grills. The pavilion is first come/first serve or can be reserved for a fee.
The playground consists of two sections, one of which is only swings, both toddler and larger children. The other section consists of a commercially fabricated slide and jungle gym structure. This structure has 3 slides for children of various ages, climbing poles, climbing grids with hand holds, elevated horizontal climbing apparatus, and pole type swings for larger children. The jungle gym structure is in an open area with no shade, the swing area has some partial shade and a shaded picnic table for seating.
Parking is on the mainland at 2309 River Ridge Road, Deland, Florida. A park operated ferry is available for transportation to the island. There is no cost to enter the island park or for the ferry. Hours are 8:00 am to 1 hour before sunset daily 365 days a year. For further information visit (
