This bascule bridge was built in 1976 (per the plaque on the bridge) and restored just this year in 2020. According to a plaque on the bridge tender house, this bridge won an award for “Most Beautiful Bridge – Movable Span” from the American Institute of Steel Construction in 1978.

According to HistoricBridges.org, this is the third bridge on this site.

"The first documented bridge at this location was a 200 foot long 30 foot wide hand-turned iron swing bridge built in 1889 by Shailer and Schniglau. The next bridge at the location (and the one prior to the existing bridge) was a 1904 Scherzer rolling lift bascule bridge built by Jackson and Corbett Company and 267.5 feet long." (visit link)
