This short trail starts at the picnic area off the Pikes Peak highway about 1.8 miles up from the toll gate. The trail from here is about 3/4 of a mile long and is a pleasant walk through a grassy meadow climbing gently up to a spot where it connects with the Mt. Ester trail. Once on the Mt. Ester trail, the hike to and from the Crystal Creek Reservoir is about 7 miles round trip. The Mt. Esther trail is part of the extensive "Ring the Peak" trail system.

There is a reduced toll if you tell the agent at the toll gate that you are only driving to this trailhead. Parking is limited here.
