The park's official name is Queen's Park. The land was given by the Duke of Sutherland, and work began in 1887. The total cost was estimated to be £6000, which was mostly met by voluntary subscription. The park was officially opened on July 25th 1888 by George Granville William Sutherland Levison-Gower, the third Duke of Sutherland.

Queen's Park is Grade: II* listed, and is famous for its trees, horticulture and lakes. It has a very individual character and is one of the city's heritage parks. (visit link)

"Tuesday 17th August 2010 - BBC Stoke and Staffordshire news report;
Longton Park gains £85,000 worth of improvements

Longton Park in Stoke-on-Trent is benefiting from £85,000 of improvements, after a grant of £50,000 from the Big Lottery Community Spaces Fund.
The money went towards restoring the lake and improving the quality of the water.
The cascade between the upper and lower parts of the lakes has been refurbished.
Another £35,000 worth of outdoor gym equipment has also been installed.
Four pieces were donated by Wicksteed playscapes, and two were funded by the Queen's Park Partnership through an Awards for All grant.
BBC Radio Stoke's Beccy Wood went to Longton Park to speak to Lillian Dodd from the Queen's Park Partnership.
Three councillors representing the Longton South area of Stoke-on-Trent, Olwen Hamer, Bagh Ali and Mike Barnes, contributed £7,000 of their budgets to the fund.
Councillor Terry Follows, cabinet member for environment, waste management and neighbourhood services, said: "The Lottery funding will allow us to make the lake more presentable and cleaner place, and encourage indigenous wildlife to breed and flourish there."

Mr Fellows added: "Having an outdoor gym is something we are very proud to have, and it's also something different. It will hopefully encourage people to see the area as more than just a park and allow them to stay fit and healthy with the dedicated facilities we are providing." The gym includes a pull down exerciser, space walker and a body twister." SOURCE: (visit link)
