Ernest Miller Hemingway (July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961) was an American journalist, novelist, short-story writer, and sportsman.
Hemingway participated in the Spanish Civil War. Subsequently, he returned several times to Andalusia, where among bullfighting became a passion and provided inspiration for his writing.
The Nobel Prize in Literature 1954.
Prize motivation: "for his mastery of the art of narrative, most recently demonstrated in The Old Man and the Sea, and for the influence that he has exerted on contemporary style."
