This commemorative stone is built into a gatepost on Garth Road at the entrance to the Tan-y-Fynwent Garden at the centre of the city of Bangor.

Originally the site of the cathedral cemetery the site was cleared between 1948 - 1951 with some of the gravestones being moved to the nearby cathedral grounds.

The site was then developed into a small quiet park/garden and a place of rest.

The stone commemorates The official opening of the garden by the then mayor of the city.

The worn inscription on the stone appears to read:

THIS GARDEN
WAS OPENED
BY THE
MAYOR OF BANGOR
ALD. IOAN Y. GLYNNE
ON THE 16TH JUNE 1952

CITY SURVEYOR CYRIL RICHARD

In the last few years much of the garden has unfortunately been paved over although some areas of green and trees still survive.
Type of Historic Marker: Commemorative stone.

Historical Marker Issuing Authority: Bangor City Council.

Age/Event Date: 06/16/1952
