For years this statue stood on the courthouse square, just plain white to commemorate the white buffalo shot in Scurry County back in 1876.

Then someone noticed that the buffalo statue was of a male and the buffalo that had been shot in 1876 was a female. They replaced this fiberglass buffalo with a female bronze one.

This original historic statue was moved to the Chamber of Commerce and murals were painted on it.
