The distribution of videos and images of a bastard snake (poisonous, although it is difficult for it to be for man) crossing a track in the recreation area of ??the Cachamuiña reservoir through social networks generated alarm among visitors who usually walk , play sports, bathe and sunbathe in the area.
The situation was brought to the attention of the Pereiro de Aguiar Council, in whose territory the dam is located, which decided to verify with its own means the veracity of the recordings and if indeed a snake was openly walking around the place. The members of the Supramunicipal Emergency Group (GES) established a comprehensive device in the afternoon of last Monday with the aim of locating the reptile. "We practically checked the terrain inch by inch but we found nothing," said the head of the GES, José Antonio Rodríguez, pointing out that the presence of this type of reptile on the banks of the reservoir is within normal limits. "It would not be logical to find a snake in the street of the Paseo de la ciudad,
In the Concello de Pereiro, given the alarm generated, they continue to watch for new sightings. In the event that any user saw her again, they would "comb" the terrain until they found her and alert the Department of the Environment in order to hunt her down, collect her and, in the company of the technicians, move her alive to a similar place, a little further from inhabited areas and where people usually walk.
José Antonio Rodríguez recalled yesterday that at no time would the snake be killed, because they are very beneficial, they play an important role in maintaining the ecosystem.
During the day yesterday, no complaint was registered in the offices of the local entity for the presence of the reptile. In the City Council they analyze the images distributed on social networks to make sure that they really correspond to the leisure area of ??the Cachamuiña reservoir and were recorded during this summer.
Several pedestrians walked along the banks of the dam in the early afternoon yesterday, most of them claiming they had not heard of the snake's presence. Those who were aware agreed that the reptile is completely harmless, when it sees people it tries to hide and only becomes aggressive if it feels cornered, threatened.
