These unique door handles are located at Saint Peter Cathedral, on the corner of West 10th and Sassafras Streets in downtown Erie, PA. The door handles are bronze sculptures of Saints Peter and Paul.

St. Peter, on the left door, is depicted holding two keys, a common symbol of the Apostle and first Pope, to whom Christ said, "thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven" (Matthew 16:18-19).

Saint Paul, on the right door, is depicted holding a sword and a book, the traditional symbols representing his authorship of much of the New Testament and his martyrdom by beheading.

Saint Peter Cathedral is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie. The church was designed by architect Patrick Keely in the French Victorian Gothic style. Construction was begun in 1873 and completed in 1893 when it was consecrated as the cathedral of the diocese. The exterior of is made mostly of red sandstone. The central tower is 265 feet tall, making it the tallest structure in Erie. The cathedral underwent renovations in the 1990s, reorienting the sanctuary, and is currently having restoration work done throughout the church.
