Cockerton, formerly a standalone village now a suburb a Darlington, until now hasn't had an outdoor memorial to honour its fallen. Previously there was and still is a plaque honouring the fallen service men from the village.
The memorial is intended to honour the fallen of both the world wars and of more recent conflicts too. It is situated around the centre of the north side of what was once the village green. It has no names inscribed and is from sandstone from Witton Fell near Leyburn.
It cost approx £8000 and renowned local stonemason David French was commissioned to construct it.
