Hidden away in a grocery store, this mural features the characters of well-known Chicago artist Hebru Brantley. The mural is just inside the eastern entrance to the store. The mural features Brantley’s Flyboy character, a young boy wearing and old fashioned flight helmet and goggles who flies around under his own power. Beneath him is a boxer holding up his arms in victory. The rest of the mural is a colorful abstract design. There is another one on the wall above the checkout area.

The sign posted near the front mural reads:

Hebru Brantley breaks down the walls of cultural boundaries through his art. Inspired by his 1980's Chicago upbringing, Brantley's work touches on tough subjects in a way that make theme easily digestible to the viewer, by telling his stories through youthful characters and their adventures. Brantley's work can be described as pop infused contemporary art inspired by Japanese anime and the bold aesthetics of street art pioneers Jean Michel Basquiat, Kaws and Keith Haring. Brantley utilizes a plethora of mediums from oil, acrylic, watercolor and spray paint to non-traditional mediums like coffee and tea.

Brantley found his first foray into the art world through murals from the Afro Cobra movement of the 60's & 70's lining the walls of the Sough Side of Chicago. These murals spoke to empowerment of our nation's youth in a way that was no longer relatable, and Brantley looks to offer the same hope and optimism to the nation's youth in a more engaging manor.

A keen observer of life, Brantley calls upon his characters to help create different narratives throughout his work. Brantley's recent focus is to share energetic narratives--moments of reality from his life and the lives of his peers, mixed with fantastical fiction--to create a fragmented environment of make believe. Brantley's pieces evoke the quintessential combination of nostalgia and inspiration in those who are able to experience his works.
