The
USS Batfish museum at War Memorial Park in Muskogee features the named WWII-era submarine, famous for sinking three Japanese submarines over a three-day period by homing in on their own radar emissions. Decommissioned in 1969, she was moved to this location a few years later. However, the ship's bell had found its way to a sailor's garage, where it languished for nearly three decades. The bell was recovered and presented to the museum; a group of sailors who saw the bell "displayed" on top of a wooden crate in 2015 constructed the wood frame on which the bell now hangs. The bell is on display at the museum but can be viewed without paying the entry fee, which allows visitors to continue on to the submarine behind the building.
