The
USS Batfish museum at War Memorial Park in Muskogee features the named WWII-era submarine, famous for sinking three Japanese submarines over a three-day period by homing in on their own radar emissions. There are many memorials and displays alongside the submarine, including this 76mm / L/50 dual-purpose gun. Introduced in 1915 as a retrofit to the USS
Texas, this gun served as primary armament on small ships and secondary armament on larger ones. It saw widespread use as a submarine deck gun during WWII.
