The town of Tayport is situated in the north-eastern tip of Fife where the Firth of Tay meets the North Sea. The town's war memorial was unveiled in 1920 and was designed by Mr J Donald Mills of Dundee architects Mills & Shepherd. It takes the form of a freestanding curved entrance gateway, 24 feet long and 15 feet high, in red and cream sandstone, with iron gates and bronze plaques.

Two of the plaques on either side of the entrance contain 100 names from World War One, under the inscription 'THEIR-NAMES-LIVETH-FOR-EVERMORE'

A separate plaque was recently fitted with the name John Ferguson, who was missing from the original list of names.

A further two plaques were added with 44 names from World War Two, plus one name from the Afghanistan Conflict.

The original bronze gates were stolen in 2010 and replaced with the current iron versions. The stonework and plaques were refurbished in 2014.

The gateway leads to an enclosed garden area which contains further memorials, including benches.

The memorial can be found in the centre of the town opposite the parish church on Queen Street, on the apex of Craig Road and Dougall Street.
