This dedicated tree was planted by the Osaka/Chicago Sister City Partnership in honor of their 35th anniversary in 2008.

The tree is just outside the entrance of a Japanese garden that was restored in honor of the partnership. The site is where the Japanese pavilion stood in the 1893 World's Fair.

The tree is on Wooded Island in Jackson Park in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. It is just outside the entrance to the Garden of the Phoenix.

The full marker reads: October 18, 2008 To commemorate our 35th anniversary, the Osaka/Chicago Sister City Partnership plants this tree to replace an ancient bur oak destroyed by a storm in the spring of 2008. There is Japanese text beneath this English text.
