This wall was built as part of the second world war

The desire to build the Atlantic Wall dates back to 1941, when the United States entered the war to protect the coasts from a possible landing. They fortify all the rock as well as the port, a strategic location on the coast for centuries. The decision to build the rock battery was taken by the Nazi navy in 1942. Work began the following year with the installation of four tanks intended to receive 12 cm guns on a 120 ° pivot. The three guns of the tanks located in the North and in the West allowing to cover a zone of fire going from north to the south, while the fourth gun, located in the south, covers an area spreading out from the West to the East A small lookout post under the current semaphore was built for surveillance. At the end of 1943, a management post was built. In 1944, four firing barracks for 10.5 cm guns were added. They are supposed to replace the four 12 cm guns deemed too old, but only two of these four guns are withdrawn. The first three casemates are directed towards the west and the fourth towards the southwest. At the same time, a casermate is built and directed towards the port. They still exist. The gun was positioned on a pivot which allowed it to rotate at 120 °. This makes it the most important military site on the west coast of Cotentin after La Hague. It had to cover the whole bay. It consisted in total of 4 guns and 19 buildings. To build the entire battery, 1000m3 of concrete, 1000m3 of backfill and 60 tonnes of scrap metal were needed. The buildings have not undergone any transformation since the liberation. The battery has been fully listed as a historical monument since 1994.

Le souhait de construire le mur de l'atlantique date de 1941, lors de l'entrée en guerre des Etats-Unis pour protéger les côtes d'un éventuel débarquement. Ils font fortifier tout le roc ainsi que le port, endroit stratégique de la côte depuis des siècles. La décision de construire la batterie du roc a été prise par la marine nazie en 1942. Les travaux commencent l'année suivante par la mise en place de quatre cuves destinées à recevoir des canons de 12 cmsur pivot à 120°. Les trois canons des cuves implantés au Nord et à l'Ouest permettant de couvrir une zone de tir allant du nord au sud, tandis que le quatrième canon, implanté au sud, couvre une zone s'étalant de l'ouest à l'est.Un petit poste de guet sous l'actuel sémaphore était construit pour la surveillance. A la fin de l'année 1943, un poste de direction est construit. En 1944, on ajoute quatre casermates de tir pour canons de 10,5 cm. Elles sont sensées venir remplacer les quatre canons de 12 cm jugés trop anciens, mais seulement deux de ces quatre canons sont retirés. Les trois premières casemates sont dirigées vers l'ouest et la quatrième vers le Sud-Ouest. En même temps, une casermate est construite et dirigée vers le port. Elles subsistent encore. Le canon était positionné sur un pivot qui lui permettait une rotation à 120°. Cela en fait le site militaire le plus important de la côte ouest du Cotentin après la Hague. Elle devait couvrir toute la baie. Elle était composée au total de 4 canons et de 19 bâtiments. Pour réaliser toute la batterie, il aura fallu 1000 m3 de béton, 1000m3 de remblais et 60 tonnes de ferraille. Les bâtiments n'ont pas subit de transformation depuis la libération. La batterie est inscrit en totalité aux monuments historiques depuis 1994.
