The Marian Columns were built in Bohemia and Moravia often as commemorative columns, as a
reminder of the tragic events, especially the wars and the plague epidemics.

Marian Column in Unicov was built as an expression of gratitude for the city avert danger from the Hussites (1424), the Huns (1463) and subsequent plagues (1709, 1715). The impetus for the construction of the Marian Column in Unicov gave the "Brotherhood of the Virgin Mary and St. John of Nepomuk ".

The chronograms are located on the sandstone pedestal of Marian column. The Roman numerals of chronograms are larger than the other letters and are not color-coded from the rest of the text. Some letters are hard to read

V roce 1714 rádil ve velké cásti Evropy mor, který zasáhl i Moravu. V Unicove si vyžádal 176 obetí. Epidemie naštestí pomerne rychle pominula a jako výraz díkuvzdání rozhodlo se mesto postavit na hlavním námestí Mariánský sloup. Zároven mel být sloup, zasvecený též sv. Janu Nepomuckému, podekováním za ochranu pred napadením Husity v roce 1424 a Huny roku 1463. Základní kámen mariánského sloupu položen v roce 1729. Autorem architektonického návrhu byl pravdepodobne kamenický mistr Václav Render. Smlouva na socharskou výzdobu uzavrena až v roce 1735 se Severinem Tischlerem. Je pravdepodobné, že dodavatelem socharské výzdoby pro celý sloup mel být Jirí Antonín Heinz. Poté ale, co odešel do Olomouce, byly práce na sloupu zadány sochari Severinu Tischlerovi. Heinz se k výzdobe vrátil znovu až v roce 1742, zrejme z duvodu Tischlerovy nemoci. Stavba byla dokoncena a slavnostne vysvecena v roce 1743.
