DE: Brühl war bereits für die mittelalterlichen Pilger des Jakobsweges von Köln kommend die erste Station auf dem Weg nach Santiago de Compostela. Die Pilgerroute orientiert sich dabei zum großen Teil an der ehemaligen Römerstraße von Köln nach Le Puy, einem Ort südlich von Lyon. Die Pilger konnten Brühl meist schon anhand des Kirchturms von St. Margaretha von Weitem erkennen, sie kamen dann durch das Kölntor und suchten Unterkunft und Verpflegung in den Gasthäusern an der damaligen Hauptstraße oder im Franziskanerkloster. Durch das Uhltor an der Uhlstraße ging es dann für die Pilger weiter zur nächsten Etappe Euskirchen.
Aufgestellt wurde die Informationssäule vom Landschaftsverband Rheinland im Jahre 2002, an den Seiten sind die Logos des Landschaftsverbandes in grün und das der Deutschen Jakobus-Gesellschaft in schwarz, die stilisierte Jakobsmuschel mit dem Schriftzug "Wege der Jakobspilger" in gelb und das Brühler Stadtwappen (ebenfalls in gelb) zu sehen. Auf der abgeschrägten Fläche am oberen Ende der Säule ist ein Text über die Wege der Pilger im Rheinland angebracht.

EN: Brühl was the first stop on the way to Santiago de Compostela for the medieval pilgrims on the Way of St. James coming from Cologne. The pilgrimage route is largely based on the former Roman road from Cologne to Le Puy, a place south of Lyon. The pilgrims could mostly recognize Brühl from afar by the church tower of St. Margaretha, they then came through the Kölntor and looked for board and lodging in the inns on the former main street or in the Franciscan monastery. The pilgrims then went through the Uhl Gate on Uhlstrasse to the next stage, Euskirchen.
The information column was set up by the Rhineland Regional Council (LVR) in 2002, on the sides the logos of the LVR are in green and that of the German Jakobus Society in black, the stylized scallop shell with the words "Weg der Jakobspilger" in yellow and the Brühler City arms (also in yellow) can be seen. A text about the pilgrims' paths in the Rhineland is attached to the sloping surface at the top of the column.
