Long Description:
Red River Carts were first developed by the Metis in their daily movement of goods around the Red River settlements in eastern Manitoba.
The carts were built entirely of wood.
As settlement and especially fur trading expanded westward, the carts became increasingly popular with settlers, farmers and traders, as they were well-suited to the relatively flat landscape.
The cart on display is an exact replica built in 1992 by local wainright (wagon-builder) Bill Hynman.
