The Oxford Universalist Church is the oldest of the denomination in the world. The Oxford Universalist Society was formed in 1777, and officially established April 27, 1785. Today the building is occupied by commercial businesses.

The Oxford Universalist Church is the oldest of the denomination in the world. The Oxford Universalist Society was formed in 1777, and officially established April 27, 1785 - the parent organization of the US Convention of Universalists. Universalist national conventions were held in Oxford in 1785, 1791, 1793, and 1794 ~ the last two in the church, which was built 1792-3. Hosea Ballou, the
"Apostle of Universalism" was ordained here in 1801.
