Not far outside of Ripon city centre the reedbeds form part of the Ripon City Wetlands, designed to attract bitterns a member of the heron family.
The wetlands were opened in 2019 and are bounded by the Ripon canal and the River Ure.
The board identifies the breeds of birds that may be seen in the reedbeds from the bird hide.
Footpaths have been laid around the reedbeds and a lagoon but have been closed during the Coronavirus pandemic, but the bird hide is still open and is only a very short walk from the canal towpath.
