The Mercado de la Ribera is a market square located in Bilbao , capital of the Basque province of Vizcaya , in northern Spain . It is located on the right bank of the Nervión estuary next to the Old Town . It has a commercial area of 10,000 m² which makes it the largest covered market in Europe . Inside, it contains stalls selling different products, highlighting the fresh food. It is ordered by the type of product that is sold. By plants the distribution is as follows:
Ground floor - Fishmonger: fresh fish, frozen fish, shellfish, pickles, sharpener and codfish.
First floor - Butchers: Butchers, delicatessens, cold cuts, bar, poultry, pasta and pastry shops, pickles and preserves.
Second floor - Fruits and vegetables: fruits and vegetables, egg shop, florist, mushrooms and seeds.
There is even an area for the direct sale of products produced in the country's small farms, the hamlets.
