This alter is made of native stones, what we call river stones, and upon it is mounted a very fancy crucifix. This crucifix is of polished marble image mounted on a steel cross is the centerpiece to both the alter and the cemetery.
This alter is used, more in the past than present, for outdoor mass at burials, and final funeral celebration of the religion.
"Assumption Catholic Cemetery is also known as Catholic Cemetery and used to be called St. Mary's Cemetery. From Morrison, Missouri go south on Main Street toward MO-100 W. The cemetery is on the right. It is located within the same fenced area as the Good Hope Cemetery.
"The death certificates from about 1921 to 1951 disclosed that the undertakers for the area identified the cemetery as "St Mary's". The Catholic Diocese advised they do not have any record of the cemetery being called "St Mary's" and it's recorded name was "Assumption". The Diocese representative speculated that the locals called the cemetery "St Mary's", because of the "Assumption of Mary"." ~ Find-A-Grave
