Voor de één voelt het als de dag van gisteren, voor de ander is Pathé Tilburg niet meer weg te denken uit de binnenstad. In 2020 is het alweer dertien jaar geleden dat de bioscoop aan het Pieter Vreedeplein haar deuren opende. Voor de Tilburgers die het zich niet meer kunnen herinneren: het ontstaan van Pathé Tilburg begint met het oude MIDI en Heuvelpoort. “Allebei de theaters waren toe aan vernieuwing. Zij besloten samen te gaan en een eigentijdse bioscoop neer te zetten.” Onder de naam MustSee opent in 2007 het nieuwe concept als eerste bedrijf in het toen gloednieuwe Pieter Vreedeplein-complex. Nieuw was de gigantische foyer, de zeven zalen met kleuren in plaats van nummers en het clubconcept met bankjes voor één, twee of vier personen. Naar de bios gaan wordt meer een avondje uit met bijvoorbeeld de Topdeals en de bioscoopmenu’s.

In 2010 neemt Pathé de MustSee keten over. Er volgt een complete verbouwing in 2012, waarvan de IMAX-zaal een belangrijk onderdeel is. Dat was volgens Rob een flinke investering. “Mensen uit Canada komen helpen om te zorgen dat de bezoeker de optimale IMAX beleving krijgt. We moesten zelfs een stuk uit de muur halen om het gigantische scherm passend te maken en we hebben de eerste rijen weggehaald.” Het scherm van elf bij negentien-en-een-halve meter is best bijzonder, in Nederland zijn er namelijk maar zeven IMAX zalen. “Dankzij hypermoderne filmtechnologie met kristalheldere digitale beelden en 12.000 Watt digital surround sound, onderga je letterlijk de ultimate movie experience. Alles, van de film zelf tot de bioscooptechniek en de zaal, is speciaal ontworpen om mensen het gevoel te geven dat ze echt deel uitmaken van de film.” In 2018 kreeg de IMAX-zaal weer een upgrade. De zaal wordt verbouwd en aangepast met IMAX Immersive sound. Ook krijgen de stoelen, licht en wanden een make-over.

Everything, from the film itself to the cinema technology and the auditorium, has been specially designed to make people feel like they really are part of the film. ” In 2018, the IMAX room was again upgraded. The hall is being renovated and adapted with IMAX Immersive sound. The seats, light and walls will also be given a makeover.
